I was surprised how quick and easy painting these mountains came to be. What wasn't so easy was the bald eagle. The muse for this painting began with a postage stamp image I found of a bald eagle silhouette. It was small but dynamic and I decided to build a composition from this. What I now needed to do was fill in the silhouette with details. I had no idea how hard that would be. I have photographed many eagles, especially in and around Pelee National Park, but without an extreme long lens the details of their underside were lost to me except for a taxidermist I was directed to. Photographs should not be our only resource.
