Golden Sunset
There seems to be an abundance of beautiful sunsets in this region of Ontario.
I had mentioned previously that I have a habit of touching up paintings after I thought they were complete. This one was went through a couple of edits trying the marry the foreground with the background. The water reeds initially were quite blue only fringed in a highlighting warmth. I hope you find my yellows and oranges connect better to the sunset's colours.
My initial step with most of my oil paintings have been to sketch out the composition in raw umber or sienna. This is done with a very thin mixture of spirits. I like the warmth it embodies to the subsequent layers and allows a fresh perspective to what is to come from the composition very early in the process. It will dry quickly, but do make sure it is dry completely before you start blocking in.
